Reporting to the Chief Mining Engineer, the Geotechnical Engineer will undertake all geotechnical activities in all areas of operation
Inspection of underground excavations, identifying geotechnical hazards, quality assurance and quality control of ground support installation and performance;
Carry out rock mass characterization (face mapping, core logging and etc.) to contribute developing block geotechnical model and derive geotechnical parameters for ground support calculations and stope design process;
Streamline, structure and keep updated geotechnical database and make finding of specific data quick and easy, ability to verify and validate geotechnical database;
Conduct stability analysis of underground excavations using empirical, analytical and numerical techniques;
Calibrate of numerical models to increase confidence of forecast;
Ensure that underground design parameters used for mine planning are optimal;
Geotechnical support for short/medium/long term mine planning, mine production and input for blast design;
Carry out regular visual and instrumental monitoring of underground excavations to identify and track ground movements;
Develop and implement Ground Control Management Plan (GCMP) and actively promote using of document by mine personnel;
Develop, maintain and implement Trigger Action Response Plans to manage potential ground control hazards (TARP);
Assist to conduct Ground Control Awareness training for mine personnel.
Design and control of execution of water management activities;
Upon request, provide geotechnical support to Processing divisions.
Carry out other tasks as directed by Line and Functional Managers;
Communicate with Contractors and facilitate works to be done by set deadline and to provide feedback in timely manner upon their request;
Quickly generate a geotechnical alert for risk areas and communicate it to all parties involved in the operation;
Oversee all geotechnical drilling activities and undertake geotechnical core logging;
Write weekly and monthly geotechnical reports in a timely manner;
Ensure an accurate geotechnical database is maintained and reports are distributed to other relevant parties as appropriate;
Undertake all activities required by the Senior Geotechnical Engineer following the SOPs;
Ensure that all tasks are carried out in accordance with SMD Lefa Mine health and safety policies and procedures
Requirements:
Good knowledge of rock engineering and simulation based design using specialized geotechnical software (Rocscience suite, GEM4D etc.);
Excellent level knowledge of geotechnical monitoring techniques, ability to work with geotechnical instrumentation and analyze collected information;
Good knowledge of engineering geology, hydrogeology and surveying techniques;
Good knowledge of drafting software AutoCAD, mining engineering software Surpac and/or Deswik package, and MS Office suite
Have a good team spirit with excellent communication skills and be able to work under pressure when necessary;
Have a firm commitment to working safely and having good organizational, technical and analytical skills;
Ability to organize and manage time;
Taste for teamwork and the outdoors;
The ability to supervise teams in the field;
Good command of French and English would be an asset;
