  • Up-skilling the available labor force so that the resource overall skill level matches the scheduling requirements. 
  • Following through on the results of failure investigations and ensuring warehouse inventory reflects the needs of the mining fleet. 
  • Ensuring that the Bissa/Nordgold way and safety awareness message is well understood and accepted as the way we do work. 
  • Prioritizing tasks within the weekly/monthly plan. 
  • Making clear judgments on which issues will impact on the Section and which of these issues should be escalated. 
  • Shut-down of any piece of equipment or plant in the event of possible serious injury or damage.


  • A minimum of an appropriate Trade certification of welding/Fabrication/Structural engineering.
  • Must have welding experience maintaining heavy mining equipment including excavator structures, rock buckets, refurbishing off highway truck bodies, fabrication and machining experience would be an advantage.  
  • Minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in a welding maintenance role At least 5 years in a senior supervisory role in mining or other heavy equipment industry.
  • Must be proficient in ARC, GAS, FLUX core, MIG and TIG welding to an ISO or ASME standard.
  • Must have Excellent Knowledge of repair techniques, materials including GET, equipment, fabrications and welding practices. 
  • Able to read and interpret local or OEM engineering drawings / blue prints.
  • Must demonstrate excellent quality controlling techniques to improve efficiency, workmanship and standard of the welding department.
  • The ability and drive to manage a maintenance work group in a technically challenging and geographically remote maintenance environment.
  • Sound planning, analytical, and problem solving skills. 
  • Well-developed interpersonal, written and oral communication skills in English and French Oral would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge and understanding of diverse third world cultures and customs an advantage.

Terms and Conditions:

  • Rotation schedule 42 days on site, 21 days offsite (including travels).
  • Comfortable conditions on site.
  • 15% annual bonus.
