Amsterdam, May 13, 2013 - Nord Gold N.V. ("Nordgold" or "the Company", LSE: NORD) is pleased to present its first Corporate and Social Responsibility (CSR) Report. As of 2012, Nordgold has been operating for five years, and in those five years has seen significant growth. Nordgold takes its success seriously. We value all our stakeholders and understand that transparency is an essential part of developing and maintaining stakeholder confidence.
The structure and contents of the CSR report are intended to be aligned with the requirements of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G3 guidelines and supplemental sections on Metals Mining.
Our approach is to sustainably and stringently assess the impact of our business on our employees, local societies and the environment. The way we define and deal with sustainability is constantly evolving. Water quality, energy efficiency, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and increasing community engagement and support are gaining in importance as issues. We are committed to developing a company strategy which increases our sustainable development and allows us to meet international sustainability standards.
In our first Nordgold CSR report we place emphasis on case studies which illustrate the challenges faced and what we have accomplished so far.
This first Corporate and Social Responsibility Report is an important milestone in the Company’s journey of being a responsible corporate citizen. It provides an opportunity to review and analyse the challenges we face and our approach to addressing them. It also provides an opportunity for our Stakeholders to assess our progress and to provide constructive comment and encouragement as we seek continuously to improve. Philip BaumNordgold’s Chairman
