Nordgold attends Global Sustainability Exchange 2018

London, United Kingdom, 25 May 2018 — Nord Gold SE (“Nordgold” or the “Company”), the internationally diversified gold producer, is pleased to announce that the Company was represented at the International Finance Corporation (IFC) 2018 Global Sustainability Exchange in Washington D.C. US,A one of the world’s pre-eminent conferences on sustainability. The IFC Sustainability Exchange, which took place on 23-24 May, addressed operational, environmental and social challenges and opportunities faced by infrastructure and natural resources players in emerging markets.

  • Nordgold is helping local communities around our Bissa-Bouly and Taparko mines in Burkina Faso with modern agricultural techniques and practices, including irrigation, so that local people can gather crops with less dependence on natural weather conditions.
  • In another agricultural program in Yeou village, near the Taparko mine, Nordgold works together with the AFEMIB national women’s association and with the French Embassy in Burkina Faso to allow residents, in particular women, to accumulate expertise and resources from the private and public sectors.
  • The Nordgold mines in Burkina Faso and Guinea are implementing extensive training programs for local young people to provide them with professional skills that make them competitive in the local market.
  • Nordgold tries to give local communities the potential to find new ways of income generation. For example, the Bissa-Bouly mine has helped local women establish and develop traditional soap-making and textile-making businesses.
“Nordgold is dedicated to being a genuine partner to the communities in which it operates. We believe that we have developed and implemented a consistent and effective strategy to assist communities around all of our mines, enabling them to become more resilient in the face of increasing challenges. We are proud to be sharing these insights and experiences at such a well-respected forum as the IFC Sustainability Exchange and believe that all companies have a duty for sustainable development, for the benefit of all stakeholders.” Oleg BazaleevHead of Sustainable Development, Nordgold
