London, United Kingdom, 27 February 2020 – Sergey Kharitich, Nordgold’s Global Health Safety and Environment (HSE) Director, will participate in the ninth Verdantix Health, Safety, Environment and Operational Excellence Summit EMEA which takes place on 2-3 March 2020 at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, UK.
The summit will gather over 200 senior managers in HSE, operations and engineering roles from a diverse range of industries to share insights on how to improve HSE and Operational Excellence outcomes using innovative technologies. These include mobile apps, drones, in-vehicle monitoring, virtual reality training, smart personal protection equipment and data analytics.
Mr. Kharitich will speak at the Industrial Wearables panel session on 2 March. As new technology is increasingly applied to health and safety management, wearable devices such as vital signs monitors, environmental hazard alarms and augmented reality visors are becoming more readily available. The panel will discuss a variety of regulatory and operational challenges associated specifically with their use, with a focus on the mining sector.
Nordgold’s key priority is protecting the health and safety of its workforce. In 2012, the Company adopted its ’More than Gold Safety Rules’ with the aim of significantly improving operational safety at its mines. As Nordgold steps up this effort, the Company’s Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) improved in 2018 by 16% YoY to 0.94. Nordgold is currently analysing the available technologies, including industrial wearables, to see how they can improve the company’s safety and environmental performance.
The safety and wellbeing of our employees, contractors and visitors is paramount for Nordgold and something we relentlessly strive to improve. The use of technology is becoming increasingly important. By sharing best practice and learning from other industries, we can continue to improve the overall safety performance of the mining sector.
