London, United Kingdom, 28 April 2021 – Nord Gold plc ("Nordgold" or the "Company"), the internationally diversified gold producer, has launched a refreshed training programme covering the Company’s Human Rights Policy and procedures for security personnel.
Currently, 40% of Nordgold’s security personnel from mines in Burkina Faso, Guinea, Russia and Kazakhstan have undertaken a specialist course designed to maintain the highest standards of conduct and to ensure that any possible breaches of human rights are swiftly and diligently investigated. Nordgold is committed to ensure 100% of its security personnel have completed the refreshed training programme by the end of 2021.
Nordgold has also conducted a three day training course focused on managing the risks of involuntary resettlement for its community relations teams and mines management in Burkina Faso and Guinea, as well as its Head Office staff, including the Chief Operating Officer, Chief Legal Officer and Director of ESG, and all employees of its legal, corporate, and regulatory affairs department.
The course, which was developed by Insuco Intl. Ltd, an independent research firm specialising in social science and engineering, leaves all participants with a good understanding of all relevant standards, challenges and risks associated with resettlement, in order to improve outcomes for both the Company and its host communities.
Nordgold is committed to working in line with both the United Nation’s Universal Declaration on Human Rights and UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) including its Protect, Respect and Remedy Framework.
Leaving a positive legacy is an absolute priority for all of us at Nordgold, and this requires building trust and a shared sense of purpose with our host communities and other parties. We strive to continually learn from best practices to ensure Nordgold’s employees have the necessary skills to develop strong and sustainable relations with the communities living in the areas where we operate.
